Help a girl with an engine whine.....Please!
Here's the information:
It's a medium high pitch whine (lower pitch than say a belt squeal);
It directly corresponds to a transmission shift getting slightly higher pitched as revolutions increase;
It's louder in the cabin and sounds like it's from the other side of the firewall - definitely front-ish;
It doesn't exist unless I'm actually actually driving. There's no whine at either idling or stopped at a light;
Doesn't get worse on an incline;
It vanishes almost if not totally completely about 1/2 hour into driving.
I have an appointment with my mechanic on Saturday morning, but since I've got to drive to work the rest of the week, any clues would be really helpful so maybe I can get it fixed close to work right away. Help!

Could be alot of things. Probably a bad bearing somewhere like a pulley. Does it happen if you rev the motor and hold it while parked? If so, pop the hood and have a friend hold the RPMs up and have a listen. Narrowing down where the sound is coming from will help alot. Good luck...
