So I wanted to make my 2002 v6 sound louder and I was considering cutting off the muffler (leaving the cats on) and just running a small piece of straight pipe from it or just curve it pointing down. I know it will be loud but does this affect MPG Torque or Horsepower? I also considered cutting off a stock 99-04 GT exhaust and putting it on my v6 but will they even work and if it did would it be worth it?

I got mine cut off like you're thinking about doing. Mines a 98 though. It's definitely louder and noticable with the windows up. I can't really tell much about mpg and torque differences though.

I would not recommend it. It will not sound the way you think it will. These V6's have to have a muffler, or they sound terrible. I took my cat back off once while I had the car in the air, just for giggles. It was incredibly disappointing, and embarrassing. If you want cheap, just have a shop throw a Flowmaster in place of the stock muffler. However, if you decide to ignore my warnings, it will only have marginal to zero effect on mpg and hp.

What about the gt exhaust? Could I use the whole thing from the cats back to make it dual? Or maybe just the mufflers and pipes? I'm on a pretty low budget right now that's why I'm lookin at these two options

That's an adapter that will allow you to use any cat back from same year model GT's. Aftermarket or stock. It's on clearance which means it's likely going to be discontinued. Grab one quick.

So I need that either way? I can't just take it to my local muffler shop and have him weld it on or something? I really don't wanna spend much cause I'm low on cash right now.

Well yeah you could do that, my exhaust is full custom job from shop. That's how most people go, that's why the adapter isn't selling.

Life tip from an old guy: If you are low on cash, DO NOT MODIFY your car. Save it for something important. Mod the car when you have a stronger budget. Cheap mods turn a good car into a terrible one.

This should be gospel. I waited until tax season to get the exhaust done on my v6. Cost right under a grand to have it done right how I wanted.
