don't forget its bang for buck. how much does that camry sell for compared to the v6 stang? for the price of the camry, it should be compared to the GT in performance. your story doesn't bother me at all. this is what bothers me.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI9UPETlXPo ......what is that little green booger packing under the hood?...or was the driver of the stang high on dope when driving to lose? whats going on!?[&:]

well according to a few sources that camry runs 15+ 1/4's and a 6.7 0-60.. so by my minnesota math calculations you just suck at driving and it should have been very close

well... the way thatcamry was blowing by, I think a GT mightbe in trouble too...or very close.
I mean, getting it up to speedin 2nd gear @4000rpm and then flooring itall the way on a honk signalis about as good as it gets, not much room forbetterdriver skills/etc. at that point.
maybe it's the 6speed transmission with bettergear ratios or something?

First off flooring it in second gear at 40 mph in a manual V6 Mustang will only get you to about 65 mph at 6000 rpms. Maybe it was a type when you typed 40- 80 mph. Maybe you ment 40 - 60 mph or maybe you meant in 3rd gear and not 2nd. If in fact you did mean 80 mph in 2nd or even 40 - 80 in 34d then that could be why you got beat. The 4.0L's power maxes out at 5250 rpms with the redline at around 5800 rpms. After that the power drops off considerable so even if your car could rev to the 7500 rpms necessary to reach 80 mph in 2nd it would take you a considerable amount of time, assuming you didn't blow your engine up. Now if you meant 3rd gear all the way, stock the manual V6 is only at 2400 rpms at 40 mph and the peak torque doesn't kick in for another 1000 rpms so until you reach about 60 mph in 3rd you won't be accellerating that quickly. So the simple answer is part of the problem with these cars is that they don't rev very high and it could use better gearing. That's one thing I can say about Japanese cars, their transmissions are geared to take better advantage of the engines power curve than american cars, imoo.

again, I LIKE THE MUSTANGandI am not into any"macho musclecar vs.boring sedan" or "american vs. japanese" B.S. flames- but here is C&D test results for whatever it's worth:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...camry-v-6.html
2007 Toyota Camry V-6
Zero to 60 mph: 5.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.5 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 31.0 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph

that'sdisturbingly slose to GT stock figures.

2nd - 40mph at~3500+rpm --> floor to ~5500rpm (60mph or so), then quickshift into 3rdfor 60 to 80mph run.
is there a better way?
