what exactly is this? you can control gear change on an auto?

ah, im so confused... lol someone please school me
As am I.
Yes.

You can select Drive - and the tranny works as normal.

OR, the fun part, click it down once for 3rd gear, again for 2nd, and again for 1st...

Now you can sit at the red light and bring up the RPMs and hunch your pony.

Light goes green you stand on it.

When you wanna hit 2nd, smack the shifter up once... 2nd...

Again... 3rd...

Again... 4th...

I am assuming OD will still be a pushbutton on the handle.

No more shifting from 1st straight into 3rd, etc.

Also prevents you from going from a forward gear into Reverse accidently!

How it works:

Some fun:

Of course, the newer ponies have 5 gears...

Does it just let you shift from 1 to 2 to 3 then to drive. Or 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 then drive...

from my understanding its 1-2-3 then drive.

which you could pretty much do with our current shifters. they just make it easier to not over shift.

And eliminate the "slop" with the stock plastic shifters.

Plus they look mean as Hell...

no way im paying 500 bucks for a shifter from jegs... someone should really jump on this, there is a big market out there for a improvement to these shifters, and surely it can be done for half of the 500 buck price.

+500 There is no way, $500 bucks for a shifter is crazy. I can see paying that much on a race car, but not for my car.

Dunno, some would think paying $2,000 for body panels is more rediculous.

It is a matter of preference.

I would enjoy the new shifter every minute that I'm driving my stang.

True, but would you enjoy it $500 dollars worth everytime Don't get me wrong, if it was maybe $300 tops, I might consider it, but $500... whew man.. that's a hard chunk to swallow for a shifter.

I actually shift mine manually alot, so I would probably get my $ worth.

We probably have more "bad road" days up here than most places... snow, rain, mud, ice, sand...

Starting this pony in "D" just doesn't cut it most of the time.

I agree it is pricey, but as everyone else has said, EVERYTHING for the S197 is overpriced.

As long as it is a quality product AND it fits...

I have been looking into this shifter since the sema show last year. I have been in contact with TCI and the shifter is due out Somtime around the end of the month. Yes it will fit the v6 model, I spoke to the parts guys at my dealer and we looked up all the parts between the v6 shifter and the GT and all the part numbers are the same, including the shifter cable. This shifter works just like the old style shifters and it has a reverse lockout so you don't accidentily shift the car into reverse.
As for the B&M it is not due out for a few more months. I spoke to B&M about it and they tell me around the end of april beginnig of may.
The TCI will go for 475.00. It's alot of money but is cheaper than rebuilding the motor after you mis shift and over rev it. Or blowing the trans up because you shoved it into reverse by accident.
