The only differece I noticed is the increased chance of poking an eye out.

alright thanks guys.

I think I might go with the 14" black then after most say they are very satisfied, and I think that is a safe bet for me personally.

...I even ran it by a few people and they agreed the pole had to go and black was a good choice for my car.

Default car antenna

I too hated the long black oem antenna. so I bought a 6" black chrome one. looks great and no problem at car washes or radio interferences. got it on ebay

+1 14" matches the roof line much better in my opinion and black goes with the other accents (i.e mirrors, window trim, antenna base, etc.).

If you get fine reception in the city and you rarely listen to FM/AM what do you listen to that gets fine reception?

Why spend the money? Cut your current antenna to the desired height and cap it. It takes all of 15 minutes at most. A dremel and a black plastic/rubber cap and there you are.
I cut mine to 6 inches and all is fine, good reception.
