SCT Xcalibrator Vs Superchips

RE: SCT Xcalibrator Vs Superchips
The wife was reading the owners manual and noticed a little tidbit. The engine is made to run on 87 octane, like elric had stated to me the other day, and in fact the manual states that premium gas could do harm to the engine, its states that you may get slight pinging occasionally, however if its hard or constant that you need to goto the dealer.

RE: SCT Xcalibrator Vs Superchips
I put in 93 octance (Sunoco) and that took the pinging away. In conjunction with the improved profermance, I have seen an increase in fuel economy of 2 miles per gallon (before the tune, with an auto, I was getting 21, now I am getting 23).
I e-mailed Superchips and they said that the tune requires 91 octane.
I ask them if using the 91 will harm the engine (as stated in the owner's manual--thank Badash) and am waiting for their response.

i dont know about you guys but i have a custom dyno tune to my car. paid dearly for it but it ran great no ping and i picked up 20 RWT and about 12 RWHP all with regular gas. i just had to remove it turing my testing period. ill put it back in the week with that and the new CAI i should be very happy

RE: SCT Xcalibrator Vs Superchips
The X-cal 2 requires only what fuel you want you want to run. Example..
You call us and say you have a 2005 GT and run 87 octane all the time. You also say you might want to go race a couple weekends a year and you are most likely buying a C&L intake in a couple months. I would suggest you let me program your X-cal 2 with
1. 87 octane program
2. 93 octane program for those race weekends
3. 87 octane program set up for the C&L intake
So in short you run what gas you want to run. You just have your X-cal programmed for what you are looking to do and load that program on your mustang.
Performance gains? Every year of car is different. It also depends what mods you have done and also what fuel you are willing to run.

RE: SCT Xcalibrator Vs Superchips
Tnaks for the info.
The superchips tuner is giong back (funny, it is no longer on their website).
The person at Superchips that I spoke with today said that the tune requires 87 octane (they do not have a tune for the V6 that requires 91 octane).
Apparently, the tune was incorrect (hence the pinging) and needs to be adjusted.
So, anyone thinking o it getting this may want to wait until theyget this straightened out.
