How often should we change our oil?

How often should we change our oil?
Hey Guys,
I am a little confused on how often we should change the oil in our Stangs. In the manual it says every 5,000 miles and on some websites it also says every 5,000 miles, but I have always been told that we should change the oil every 3,000 miles. I did my first oil change at 4,500 and I took my mustang to Ford, they placed the sticker on my windshield which indicates every 3,000 miles, so that is why I am confused. I know with the Mustangs it comes stock with synthetic blend oil, so what do you guys suggest? I would hate to change the oil every 3,000 miles if it isnt necessary. Should i keep usuing synthetic blend oil or change to full synthetic? any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yea ford will always try to get more money out of you by making you come back every 3,000 miles. To tell you the truth my dad was a manager at a Ford dealership in Miami for 15 years and he changed his oil every 8000 miles or so and his 1995 F-250 had 370,000 miles before he traded it in, not one problem. Pretty much it is up to you how often you change your oil, I do it every 5000 miles or so.

Great, thanks for the info, i pretty much figured that, but wanted to make sure. Do you still use the manufacturer synthetic blend oil?

There is no definitive answer. 3K, 5K, 10K, 15K are all guidelines for different types of oil. If your oil is dirty/contaminated at 1500 miles, change it. If it's clean at 8983 miles keep on going.
Remember the word synthetic is a marketing term now a days, it means different things to different manufacturers and consumers. One drop of additive per barrel could technically qualify as a synthetic.
Generally I change filters every 3 months and drain the oil once a year in the car and truck. That's what works for me, the oil I use, the way I drive, and the environment I drive in.

I figure that if Ford says 5,000 miles -- barring unusual use (like in the summer racing season I check and may change it a little more often due to more severe use) -- that is probably the rule of thumb to follow.
The company Ford is the one backing up the warranty. They aren't going to tell us to stretch it out and risk having to replace a bunch of engines.
The oil change places, including the dealer, though are in the business of selling their service and product. So of course their recommendation is going to be more frequent. The place I have change the oil always says 3,000 miles and puts that on the slip. I ignore them and track it myself. Even with racing season I can usually go 5,000 without having to change it.

5k with synthetic blend, its not the oil thats limited its the filter, if you wanted to splurge for amsoil or something like that you can change a motorcraft oil filter every 5k and change the actual oil every 15k.
i just stick with syn blend or dino oil and a motorcraft filter every 5k

They are out there to get your money as stated above. Every 5000k (as long as your not running it too hard) will be just fine, some guys' on here say ever 7500 even. Just use some good oil & filter and you will be fine.
