Top Speed / Removing Speed Limiter
#12
Even with an aftermarket driveshaft and the governor removed, I definitely WOULD NOT recommend driving over 120, because the stock tires are simply not rated to got that fast.
Especially on the street. One blow out and you would pretty much kill yourself and probably others.
That said, if you have the supporting performance mods, and the supporting safety mods, I'm sure it would easily achieve over 130 or 140, and anyone wishing to try, I'd say have a go at it.

Ditto on high speeds with the stock tires: DONT DO IT!!! The stock tires are not rated for such high speeds. I don't know about y'all, but with the stockers, when I'd get up around 95+, the front end would start to feel a little light and "floaty". Changing to z-rated 17" tires completely eliminated that problem. So now at 100+ (at a track), it handles just fine..going straight at least!
As far as top speed. Well, on the dyno at least, in 4th gear with my auto, I saw it hit 145 @ 6K rpms with stock 3.31 gears. Of course I have the speed limiter removed and an aftermarket driveshaft. With a .7 reduciton in gear ratio in overdrive, 175 would be thoeretically possible for a short time.
There's not really anywhere around here though where you can safely drive that fast on public roads, so I don't try. (well, I can think of one place )
Keep it safe, everyone!
