Top Speed / Removing Speed Limiter

Lordy Lordy Lordy. Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God. I am absolutely dumbfounded with the Jetta story. To the person that has the 175 mph Jetta, how old are you? In Canada we do not use mph but kilometers per hour so I can see 175 kmph but 175 mph, not a chance. I am almost tempted to wager that if your moms Jetta hits 175 mph I will give you my 09 gt500. If it does not hit 175mph we crush it. Feel like a little drive and a friendly wager? In 20+ years you will look back on your claims and think to yourself "damn was I ever goofy back in the day". Lastly does mommy know you are driving her car like an asshat?

Ditto on high speeds with the stock tires: DONT DO IT!!! The stock tires are not rated for such high speeds. I don't know about y'all, but with the stockers, when I'd get up around 95+, the front end would start to feel a little light and "floaty". Changing to z-rated 17" tires completely eliminated that problem. So now at 100+ (at a track), it handles just fine..going straight at least!

When I had first got my 2005 mustang with the 4.0 I had no idea the limiter was removed or off. I was at 5,000 rpms in the last gear before I let off. I have the 2010 gt500 rims with toyo tires proxes 4. My car handled it no problem. Felt nothing wrong with it. I had no clue how fast I was going all I know is when I let off the gas the speedometer was buired to the end and it took it a minute to go back down to 120. So I would say I was at least going 135-140. Safely at that.

Couldn't have said it better, ever since I read your thread about your shaft blowing up I'm kinda careful to even go over 90... You are the only one I've heard of the drive shaft grenading though, yea the 05's have the different clips but it makes me wonder if yours was just faulty or are there others out there with the same reports?

I wouldn't advise trying to max out your car with the stock driveshaft. The 05s were especially prone to breakage because they lack a clip that holds the u-joint together. On my 06 I used my xcal to put the limiter back in place at 115, although I wouldn't go that fast anyway.
I've had my car for over a year now and I think the fastest I've gone is 80-90 MPH. Its my daily driver and I have no reason to do 100+. The car isn't all that fast since its mostly stock, so I really don't find the thrill in trying to max it out.

I can't believe I read this entire thread... I guess somewhat amusing though. A Jetta? Naaaaawwww....
My 06 V6 has seen around 105 b/t Colorado and Wyoming late at night. Yes, an antelope would have made a big mess but fortunately, it didn't happen. That was a one time thing, it just didn't get me going knowing that on a public road, too many things to go wrong (jail, tickets, hurting me or other people). I just didn't get off on it. If the limiter is at 120, I won't touch it because I won't come near it unless I track my car some day - and if so, will take my Bama CX3 and remove it. I bought the GT takeoff rims/tires right after I bought the car, and I've never had any problems even approaching 75-80. Smooth as glass, I'm more piqued about the throttle response at lower speeds.

All that talk about 150 in a mustang. Even with all the GT bits I would not suggest it without some major brake and suspension work. I have had my mustang GT at 145 mph, which is when the limiter hit. With 3.55's you are pulling to that number in 5 gear from around 140ish.
Anyway, stock the brakes are horrible. Sure, the brakes are probably not as bitey as they once where, but even then... The GT suspension is fine at those speeds, but upgrades are always welcome in that department. I am planning the ford handling pack, 13-14 gt500 rims and 13-14 gt500 brakes in the future before any engine mods. Why? Because I want to address the shortcomings before just bolting on more power. The idea of speeds over a buck in a V6 is not one I would entertain without at least GT bits. 150mph? ->GT500 bits.
