Who owns a S197 V6 that also owned a 65'-73' Mustang

According to Car & Driver Mag. the 2007 Mustang V6 clocked in 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and did the quarter mile in 15.3 seconds @ 93 mph.
The 2007 V6 Mustang was the quickest car for under $20K.
So I think our V6s of today are faster than the original ones.

The 65 mustang's 271 hp was rated in gross hp meaning that the actual net hp the way cars are rated these days would be more like 200- 210 net hp. However when it comes to transmission gearing there's no comparison. The s 197s 3.35 first gear launch is much better making it the faster car .I would have thought that the 65's performance would have been a little better than 8.3 0-60 and 15.9 1/4 .It does weigh about 500 lbs less than s197 v6.

Well, I don't actually qualify for this reply because my previous Mustang was an '82 GT. However my wife had a '67 coupe. It was rather plain with a 289 and automatic transmission. She only had it one year before her brother wrecked it but says her '08 Pony is a better car in every way. It's also a better car than my '82 was in every way except the torque and sound of the 302.

I bought my '65 in April of '67, in fact I am looking at the bill of sale right now. It was a 289, 2-barrel Cruis-a-matic coupe. I called the color "staty blue" as I was in Maine and the state trooper cars were the same color, I guess a slate blue. The cost a wooping $ 1,716.00.

66 Mustang 289 / 06 v6 coupe
My first car was a 66 Mustang Hardtop with a 289 2bbl auto. It was a good car. Three years ago, when I was getting my f150 serviced a the dealer, I saw a tungsten grey metallic v6 coupe on the lot that I really liked, and bought. This one has a 5 speed. Back in the day, I wished that the 66 had a four speed because the auto trans sucked. Although the hp is rated the same for both at 210, the 06 would blow the doors off the old one. also, the cornering and ride quality is in another league. But as different as they are, the 06 still reminds me of the old 66. Am I sorry that I sold the 66? Not really. I bought a 71 Cuda' 383 that I kept for a long time. I plan on keeping my 06 though especially since I do not like the design changes on the 2010's.
Happy motoring!

Like many here, we have a few Pony Cars in our house. My dad bought a new left-over 66 coupe in the Fall of 1966. It has a 289-C4 auto. My sisters and I all learned to drive with it. I cut my teeth learning how to wrench on that car. That was my daily driver from high school into my 30's. Now it's used as a fun car.
The only S197 we have now is the wife's 4.0L/auto vert, in Mineral Gray. It is a MUCH better car than the 66, as you would expect with the advances in technology. But the 66 is a BLAST to drive.
The 85 SSP is another toy that followed me home one day. Now it's getting redone to reflect its CHP usage. It's being repainted now in all black with no lettering, but it will have authentic CHP lights and both antennae. The lights will be covered while driving, but here is a video clip of an SSP Mustang with these lights.
