Default FRPP 3.73 Gears + T-LOK?

I was at the ford dealer today discussing FRPP 3.73 gears and one of the guys highly recommended that I also have the gears installed with a Traction Control System (T-LOK?) Limited Slip Differential.

What benefit exactly does having a T-LOK installed with the 3.73 gears deliver? Is there any disadvantage to installing JUST the gears and not the limited slip differential?

I am running an 08 V6 mustang. Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction

Higher gear ration will allow faster acceleration with the sacrifice of having a lower top speed. A Traction Lock (T-lok) will allow power to go to both rear wheels rather than just the rear right wheel.

If you get just the gears without a t-lok, you will probably get no traction at all and will be a useless mod. Getting a t-lok is beneficial for better traction, so it is worth it to get it.

Some people just end up getting a GT take-off 8.8 Rear end because they are stronger, and have gears pre installed in them. Both are an expensive route, but worth it in the end,

Previous posts had solid explanations. I recommend the 4.10 (I wish I'd gotten them), but the 3.73 has a tremendous difference. Gears+LSD are by far the biggest improvements from a bolt on installation.

I highly, strongly, vehemently recommend getting a GT 8.8" rear end takeoff installed with the LSD and the gear ratio of your choice. This way you avoid gear whine and allows you to prepare for F/I if you choose to in the future.

Upgrading gears and the LSD separately requires the mechanic installing it to have near god-like talent and perfection. More than likely, there will be gear whine. It's harmless but annoying...and permanent.

i have a question to add
the v6 models are not 8.8 inch rear ends, they'r are 7.5 inch
do the 4.10 as well as the 3.73 fits on 08 v6, do u have to get a gt takeoff rear end and where would you be able to find one?

FYI
Takeoff rear ends didn't come from the factory with 3.73s or 4.10s. Newtakeoff sends the rears out and has new gears installed.

I Googled "GT takeoff parts" and found this -

I also have heard about this outfit -

In order to install an 8.8" into a V6, you'll need to install a new pinion flange.

Keep in mind that an 8.8 rear is at least 50 pounds heavier than the stock rear. If you are not going FI.. or running the car at the track with slicks.. it is not really necessary. That said.. there is nothing at all wrong with "overbuilding" the rear end (if you don't mind the added weight).

The t-lok itself is not really that expensive.. and you really do need it with the 3.73 or 4.10 gears.. traction will be an issue if you don't.

new take off and v6mustangstuff are good places to get a 8.8 with your choice of gears. I was under the impression they came with the flange as well so all you would need is a buddy to help you out on a saturday with the install.
