Trials, Troubles, Heartache, and Just Plain Bad Luck: X-Charger finally installed
I started the install on monday and figured it'd be easy after reading through the instructions and hearing everyone say how much of a cake job it was. It really should have been, except for me and my buddy's plain terrible luck.
First night's troubles:
EGR fitting into exhaust was stripped: Fixed grinded down the threads.
Injector seats cracked: 1.5 hour drive the next day for replacements.
Bolt missing for injector rails: Replaced bolt.
Second night's heartache:
Had to work backwards to fix mistakes made by another friend with the supercharger pre-build:
Trapped bolt wasn't in place: Knocked the plate loose enough to slide the bolt in, but not tear the gasket.
EGR adapter was backwards. Tore the hell out of the metal gasket and RTVed it back into place.
Fittings not turned for clearance of bolts: Cranked them into place.
THE DEAL BREAKER: Found one of the bolts for the supercharger to intake faulty (bubble inside the shank.) Bolt snapped
Third day: St. Pattys day drinking break
Fourth and final day:
Bolt shank from snapped bolt still stuck: Forced to remove supercharger. Drill + Easy out. Replaced bolt.
Support bracket for the nose of the supercharger wouldn't fit: A little grind work had it right as rain.
First highway run made it all worth it.
I definitely don't blame Dave or EE. Most of it was just plain stupidity, backtracking, bad luck, and having to wait on replacement parts since we did our work at night.
I'll throw pictures up tomorrow when I move them from the camera.
