Default Turbo VS X-charger

I have been looking into Force induction. I want a nice even torque curve, with plenty of low end torque. Here are my favorite options:

STS turbo kit, $6100, two settings, 5PSI and 9PSI, changed with the flip of a switch. Everything is in the package. top HP is 330RWHP. STS came highly recommended from a turbo nut I work with (he is an engineer and hasbuilt his own turbos, but as for buying one this is what he recommended. http://www.ststurbo.com/mustang_v6

The second is the intercooled Xcharger Kit $5970 Im sure most of you are familiar with this kit. http://www.explorerexpress.com/xchar...ang-p-943.html

Hoping some turbo guys chime in, I have seen some around here that have had some pretty impressive results. Opinions please?

Not much else is better for low end torque and an even torque curve then an X-Charger

Absolutely right on the X. Do a lot of asking around about that STS kit, I've heard nothing but negatives from 4.0 owners. From what you described the X is your best bet.

Also, the added benefit of the X is that you can save about $1200 (priced in the DFW area) and do the install yourself.

The location of the air inlet/filter on the STS system allows water off the road to get into it not to mention lots of dirt dust and sand. A guy recently blew up his engine due to water getting sucked into the engine. There are a lot of posts on disappointment on that system. If you want a Turbo go with a Powerhouse. If you want more reliability go with an X-Charger. Not that it can't be done reasonably reliably with a turbo but there have been a bunch more blown engines using turbos then X-Chargers. But if that is not an issue and you want the maximum horsepower that can be made then a Powerhouse turbo is about as good as it gets.

I have been really happy with the X-Charger.....then upgraded to the Xtreme IC.....lots of fun....Nice Pony and Afixer have many miles on these systems..........very reliable!!!

Low End Torque.....on 91oct. in So. Cal....302rwhp/326rwtq.....

Plenty of Fun to the rear wheels!!! IMHO!!!

I really like my Xcharger Xtreme, and am another one with a lot of miles on it. I put it on when I had 90,000 on the car - swapped it off another car that had put 20,000 on the Xcharger. I have 160,000 miles on the car now and the Xcharger has performed great.

What you are looking for out of the car though has a lot to do with which system to go with. The Xcharger Xtreme has put me in my goal of a 12 second convertible, and has proven to be reliable and consistent. And it is probably one of the easiest installation projects.

If your track goals are for a quicker car though, then the Powerhouse turbo is the route to take. That will give you very low 12's and into the 11's easily. I would stay away from the STS rear mount turbo though - that intake location concerns me and I haven't seen many of them around.

Hey, JimC.

What other mods do you have on your car if any?

I have a few: Xcharger Xtreme with 2.6" pulley, 4" aluminum driveshaft from Shaftmasters, CHE safety loop, 8.8" rear end with 3.55's, LPW low profile girdle, HotPart LCA's and adjustable UCA, UMI Peformance bolt in relocation brackets, FRPP shocks and struts, GT front brakes, Jeg's Sports Star 15x4 wheels up front (I forget the tires now, but they are skinny) and 15x8 on back with M&H cheater slicks 26-10.5 x 15 tires for the track.

I'm running on a canned tune from Doug for the Xcharger Xtreme for 93 octane and it is very rich. I need to get it dyno tuned to get more out of the car.

This winter I hope to get my 4 point roll bar installed and will do a rear seat delete with belt removal at the same time to offset that added weight. With a convertible you are supposed to have one when you run quicker than 13.49, and one track already told me that next year they won't let me run without one.
