Default Diablo 89 Octane Tune?

Is there a custom tune to get an 89 Octune Tune conversion on the Diablo sport tune? The gas stations here only have 87, 89 and 93, but the Diablos mid grade is 91. I used to put 93, but currently using 87(due to the rise of prices). After calculating, I'm just paying a couple of more $$$ for 93, so going back to that. I was wondering about the 89 tune because it's in between. By the way, the gas waste about the same between 89 and 93?
Thanks

1/2 fill 93 and half fill 89 = 91.

Using lower Octane than the compression is designed for increases the risk of detonation - not good. It will (genreally) also lower fuel mileage.

IOW - what you save in gas pump dollars, you lose back due to lower mileage. Generally.

I don't know if these cars have knock sensors to automatically retard timing in the event of detonation. If so, you should be able to see timing retard via OBD-II. Then you can look at what happens with regard to timing on various pump grades (87 v 93) to find what works best straight from the pump.

Good explaination, never thought of it that way. Going to have to go with 93 for that extra hp and "better health" of the engine as some had said. I'm actually looking into getting a scangauge 2 later to check differences of mph, but first getting the 4.10 gears(know that will hurt my mpg, but probably worth it for the extra push). Thanks again!!!

AM writes tunes for the Diablo. Also, the AM 89 custom tune probably will gain you more RWHP than the Diablo canned 91 or 93 tunes do.

Higher octanes don't mean "better health" for your engine, providing you're running the correct octane for the tune.

Of course, it's just that a lot of people have mentioned that they stay away from 87(as if it was a really bad thing) and put premium. AM huh? Didn't know they sold tunes, have to check that out. I'm guessing that I'm going to need the interface? Thanks again for the help

Bama used to be the only place you could get Diablo tunes. He merged (was bought out?) by AM and continues his great tunes. AM's tech support will tell you all you need to know on how to load the e-mailed tune(s) into your Diablo.
