Default 4.0 throttle body upgrade?

Hey sixers,

One of the power upgrades available for my Dakota 4.7 was a larger diameter throttle body. However, I haven't seen one for the 4.0 V6. Are they not available?

Has anyone bored out their own?

Thanks

Jason

There are some aftermarket upgrades out there, they are not worth the value to performance however, boring the stock one out might be the cheaper route

There's a guy that bores out the 4.0 TB's on ebay, but I don't remember his name. You can buy one from this company called Zabtek. There's also one from BBK, but all I've heard from people who have that one is that it gets stuck open at times.

Jerry Stranigan is the guy who ports and polishes the stock throttle body. I sent mine to him to be worked on so here's some pictures comparing the stock (I have an extra one off an '05 in the garage) to the Stranigan port and polish one:

A friend tested it on his flow bench and it flows quite a bit more than stock. Since it is the stock throttle body there aren't any issues once you put it back on like the BBK seems to have.

I'm thinking about getting the same one Jim posted, usually you can find that one or a similar ported/polished on eBay for around $80.

The bore in the intake is just a little larger than 65mm.Do not see that a larger throttle body would do much good without modifying the intake.I have seen aftermarket 70mm throttle bodies but do not remember the manufacturer.

I believe Zabteck is a 70mm.

Go with the polished TB, I've heard a lot of issues with aftermarket TB's on our cars failing. I am hoping to sell my V6 and get a GT instead but one of my planned upgrades was Jerry's polished TB. If i keep the six, I will buy one from him. Heard nothing but great things about them.
