4.0 thermostat housing.

4Season makes one (plastic also) for less than $35.
Part#: 85139, and it also cross reference with the 4.0 Explorers from 01 to 2010.
I just don't know how good that brand is.
Dorman Products makes a housing for the 4.0 Explorer the same years and I wonder if it would fit the Stang as well for less than $50...
Dorman is a much better quality than the OEM crap, despite the fact that it's still made out of plastic.
Part# is: 902-860
There is no metal housing on the horizon for these engines.

You should have replaced the thermostat, that is probably why it cracked. Mine did. I wouldn't give ford any money for parts they didn't make correctly. I bought perma-seal thermostat sealer and clamped it back together with longer bolts and a few extra clamps made from nails bend into a "C" shape. It wasn't until the gasket sealer blew out that Ford is using thermostats that destroy parts by overheating the car again. In the 90's if the thermostat went bad the car just wouldn't warm up, now they overheat and break parts. It has been 2 years since I fixed the housing.

Just found a metal one thats on ebay, made in north america and purchased one. I hated the plastic one. I found it by searching for "v6 mustang 4.0 metal thermostat housing".Just letting anyone know who is interested. The main lower housing is a one piece cast design, looks to be a good casting. I installed it without any problems. Also comes with all the orings and even an extra gasket that goes between under the upper neck. I like it and it will not rupture like my plastic one did and cause me to have two blown head gaskets and also 2 warped heads. My wife was driving and she said the temperature did not go into the red before she stopped and pulled over. Anyway this should fix my problem forever.
