4.0 thermostat housing.

4.0 thermostat housing.
I just noticed that I have a slow coolant leak on the Stand and it looks like the thermostat housing seal/0-ring is the culprit.
But I also heard that the housing itself is prone to crack since it's an ingenious plastic piece.
I have the wife checking the temp gauge constantly since it's her car.
She knows to shut it down if that needle moves, lol.
Anyway, do they make a metal/alloy one for those engines?
Since I have to yank it out to repair anyway, I figured I install a better quality one is it's available even if it's not cracked.

best thing you can do is just replace the housing, upper and lower, thermostat, sensor, and the 2 orings. i bought the parts from fords when i did mine, but rockauto.com has better prices for the parts. heres a write up i did with a bunch of pics from another forum. its a pretty easy job.

Greatly appreciated.
The visual will help without a doubt.

no prob. its not really as hard to do as it might look, but i tried to show it all. you could get it done without pulling the tb, but i like to get everything out of the way, makes it real easy, and good time to clean the tb.

I will tackle that job tomorrow.
Got the parts today...
It just pain me to use the same cheap plastic crap again.
I was hoping someone was making an aftermarket piece in alloy at least

Here's a pic of the bad lower housing...
It's actually a two piece glued together all around and guess where it leaked at?
At the joint of course!! Imagine that! Who da thunk dis?
Less than an hour job and the car's back in business.
I reuse the thermostat though... only because I have the feeling that this engine might not stay in the car long enough for IT (the thermo) to quit.

Gees, Pascal. I never thought I'd hear you complain about the wife potentially getting "overheated".
(BTW, Nuked_06 and I got married on Saturday but don't tell anyone...)
