Default 5r55s

Good morning

My 05 v6 mustang with 67k has a moody transmission . Last night it was shuddering and banging like an animal. It was shuddering through the gears while accelerating from a stop light with moderate acceleration. It seemed to bang after I downshifed. The gears hang as they sswitch and then it clunks.
The worst part was with the cruise on and while attempting to accelerate I had to let off andthe gear was stuck (freak thing I guess) and it was at like 5k rpm. It was not a slip since the gears hang at times.

Getting new fluid and filter this weekend as the history is unknown.

Sorry about the typing as I am on a ohone

Is your Stang a manual or automatic?
Getting the tranny fluid changed, new fuel filter, oil and oil filter changed is a good start!
Do you have the stock airbox? If so, how's the air filter?
My car has close to 66,000 miles and I had my clutch replaced out this weekend. =-(

5r55s is the automatic.

Sounds like low fluid with some of the symptoms - rpm coming up without moving? I can't tell for sure if that is what you mean on some of this. But rough shifting, not shifting until you get really rolling and then hard shifts sounds like it is struggling to build pressure, another sign of low fluid.

Its shuddering and seems to be shifting like dr Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes its smooth othertimes its not smooth when shifting normally. It seems to shudder when going either in /out of either of lock up or OD when up or down shifting. It seems to be better when the fluid is cold but I don't know.if that is my imagination.

It was really banging and shuddering last night - I honestly thought it was
going to die.
If you are pigtail on the throttle the tachometer barely moves between 2 to 3 I believe but again a little shudder.

I believe the car is tuned - so I am having the tune reflashed at the dealership along with the fluid being replaced (dropping pan)

Trans service should take care of it. The fluid really needs to be changed before 60k miles on these!

If you end up needing a replacement 5r55s trans for a 4.0L, PM me; I have one from a '06 in perfect working order.

I hope the fluid change helps. I'm taking it in Saturday. Drove it again tonight and of course it behaved fairly well. No banging or bad shuddering. 1 to 2 are good but the rest of the shifts quiver/shudder.

Cross my fingers.

The guy needs a new trans. Nothing is going to fix it at this time. I would rebuild it though :P If you read this. Don't ever do a flush. Drop the pan, change the filter and refill.
