So I got somewhat lucky having my 07 v6 totaled by a drunk driver. I got a 2013 v6 performance package outt of it (whilst still making additional payments). Now let me tell you. I the comparison between the two ( 07 and 13) are night and day. My 13 now has a cai and 91 tune, with roush axle backs. And let me tell you. Phenomenal. I'm in love. I'm not even s/c'ed. I baby her on low miles but when I open her up she roars and makes your hands sweat. My 07 had power on the cai and tune, don't get me wrong, but there is absolutely no comparison. Trade it in. You'll get way more bang for your buck. Trust me. An extra 90hp or so and some downright scary torque for such a small engine. And did I mention efficiency? I would fill up once a week. Now I fill up at least once every week and a half to two weeks. It's great. Good luck, hope this helps.

Today, I learned that the GT honks out there lack in reading comprehension skills. What is so hard to understand about 4.0 or 3.7? Nowhere in the OP's post did I see anything even remotely related to a 4.6 or 5.0.
For what it's worth, I think I'm just going to build my 4.0, with the caveat of trading it in IF I find something that is just an absolutely awesome deal in the next year or so. I love the look of the 2011-Current Mustangs, but I certainly enjoy my '06 too. It's a tough call, either way!

The V6 didn't do it for your inferiority complex, or the GT, so now the GT500. I hope it fixes it for you!

I was planning on building my 4.0 but I am so glad I did not. I am not going to go into details about why I dislike it because it was pretty much everything, but I am so glad I did not decide to go that route. Trade up to a 3.7, that engine is everything a 4.0 wishes it could be and more. I traded out of my 06 4.0 and into a 13 5.0 but I still would have been happy with a 3.7. VERY stout engine. I do have respect for the Xcharged 4.0s though. Great reliability, great numbers, and good times at the track.

Telling other people what they "need" is just plain silly. Everyone has their own needs and expectations.
Personally, I "need" a car somewhere a bit north of 300HP, which looks good and handles competently. I get that with my X-Charged 4.0, don't "need" a GT, don't "need" a GT500.
I have a car that makes me very happy, it does everything I require of it, and plenty of 4.6L GT's have spent their time "feeling the real deal" whilst looking at my tailights growing smaller...
There isn't a single correct answer that applies to everyone.
And for the record, just rolled over 70K (60K of that with the "X"), putting down over 330HP, and still totally unblowed up.

Nah, now he needs a to go up to a Super Snake to feel the really real deal...

I'd vote for a 3.7 upgrade- I love mine. 305hp, Just got 31mpg going over the rockies cruising between 140-150kmh. Would i like a 5.0? If course. Could i of bought a 5.0? Yes. Why didn't i buy a 5.0? I test drove the 3.7 and fell in love.

Some of you need to stop masturbating your brains with the 4.0 timing chains location
And the internals are strong enough to handle 13psi boost if you don't track it too often.
Just slap a blower on it and you'll spank the 3.7 (and the 4.6 with bolt ons) nicely.
I did test ride the 3.7 (stock) and I wasn't impressed at all because you have to rev it up to get the ponies.
Fug that, I want the power down bellow for the street.
Having said that the 3.7 is a sweet mill and it would do wonders in a Focus but the S197 is too heavy for it still.
OP, you'll have to play with the numbers and see where you at vs getting a 3.7 and make it go fast.
A Centric blower runs around $4000, add a used 8.8 rear (about a Grand with install), a beefier clutch if you run a manual and you'll be at $6000 like you guessed.
I don't think you can get into a 3.7 and be as fast as a blown 4.0 for that kind of money.
