Lol, that's very possible. I fully expected to run into these types of issues, which is in part why I was only willing to pay $1,300 for the car. Called my buddy mechanic, he said he can have one of his guys do it for about $650 - $700, including all parts labor and fluids. That's actually not a bad price at all.

I agree.
But I'm sure you can find a whole engine with low miles for around $500.
I'd go that route if it was me...

Hmm... not a bad idea, but I'm not sure where I could find a motor for that price. I mean, I can't find a honda motor that cheap these days. Suggestions on where to search for a good 4.0 motor?

Go on ebay - and yes, easier and cheaper to pull that motor and drop a new one in. My bet is that there is more wrong with that engine that you just haven't seen yet.

If you can't find one on ebay then try car-part.com and search your area/state.

Also I got a quick quote on head gasket replacement yesterday, $1,600. That's at my work, so I'm going to look around for better pricing.

If it's still under financing (not sure if it is or not), isn't the financee (the owner or whatevs) required to take care of it and keep it reasonably clean?

Salvage yard like LKQ is who I deal with.
Use your dealer wholesale account for that too.
Check all your local yard...

Also, check for auctions on wrecked 05 6 bangers (low mileage if possible) in your location.
Buy the whole car for say... $1300 () and re-sell what you don't use on craig's list afterwards.
I you play your cards right, you should be able to recuperate that dough...

Bummer about the engine. I too think a better option would be a replacment motor. There's no telling what else was neglected on that car that could cost you money after you fix the head gasket.

Ignore the trolls (as it's very obvious you are already doing), this is a great thread and it's pretty impressive what you've accomplished with the car.
