What's the gear ration in my 2014 V6?
Hi everyone. First off, yes I did a search of the forum already, so I think I have the answer but I haven't found anything that nails it down for sure. And it'll be a little while before I'll be in a position to do any sort of check on the car itself.
I have a 2014 V6 that I use some in bracket racing. I ran a 14.99 Saturday at Wild Horse Pass (Phoenix) at 95 MPH, which I was very pleased with. But I'd like to do better.
I think my car, whose only option is the electronic package, came with 2.73 gears. Can anyone confirm or deny that? I'm thinking of putting 3.73s in it but I'd like to get a feel for just how big a change it'll be.
Thanks in advance.

2.73 in the common cars. 3.31 in the performance pack cars. 3.73 swap would be a huge change for drag racing. With the 2.73 gears I could not get a better sixty than 2.1 in my 2011 V6 and it ran a best of 13.8@102 at sea level. I'm sure I could cut a 1.9 sixty with higher gears but don't want to put any money into my daily driver.

Thanks, that does help, my 60 foot times are a little over 2.4. Pretty slow. I'm a little torn about making a big change, while I don't drive the car much I do take it on the occasional road trip. But bracket racing is likely to be its primary mission in the future.

Did you buy the car new?
If you have the optional 3.31's it would be on the window sticker. If you don't have or didn't see the window sticker put your VIN in here http://researchmaniacs.com/VIN-Numbe...cker/Ford.html and it will show what the window sticker was.
No Option on gear it has 2.73's.

There was no mention of the gears on the sticker though, so it should be a 2.73. Thanks very much!

I have a 2013 with 2.73 gears and am thinking about going with 3.55.
It's not my daily driver, when I do drive it sometimes it's just around town and sometimes taken on trips on the interstate so I was concerned about getting too crazy with a gear change and having the rpm too high on the interstate.
I did some rough math by driving with my current 2.73s on the interstate at 80 mph (speed limit 75, I feel 80 is reasonable and not getting carried away).
With my current 2.73s 80 mph = about 1900 rpm.
With the planned 3.55's 80 mph should = about 2470 rpm.
I feel that's a very reasonable cruising rpm and the 3.55s should give a nice boost to 0-60 elapsed time.

Compare the transmission ratio for first gear and the 3.73. You may want to opt for 3.55 - first gear will come and go pretty quickly with the automatic. The 3.55 may give you what you need off the line and work better through the traps. The 3.73 could be a traction issue at launch.
