Raised White Letter Tires?

Raised White Letter Tires?
Here is a doozy... Back in the day I got some Saleen GT Takeoff rims and tires for my 06 V6. They were brand spanking new, saw an ad in Mustang Monthly and jumped on it (I think they were $299 for all 4). Anyway, the tires are still good, believe it or not, car has about 47K. The tires are starting to crack or dry rot, so I'm looking to replace. I have Firestone Firehawk raised white letter tires on my 66 Fastback, love them. I called Firestone to see what was available in raised white letter - and was told no one, and I mean he looked at just about every tire out there for that size, and no one sells a raised white letter tire for that size.
Bummer! I wanted that retro look, dangit. I might have to swap out my GT rims to get the look I want.

My friends dad runs those on a pickup of his and I thought I recall him saying they were discontinued and had an issue getting his last set. But a pretty popular trick guys do these days is just clean the tire really well and get a white paint stick or something similar and color the letters in by hand. Seems to last a while before needing touched up. Might be worth a shot.

I tried that on some truck tires. It looks really good for about a week, then you have to get it off... and it isn't easy.
Is it just an odd size they put on them? And I thought I was getting such a deal, lol. I guess they have lasted me 8 years...

I thought the same thing when I bought mine. Like you, I didn't have any luck either. I am old enough that I am no longer a racer, but a cruiser. I looked for 17" 50-series non Z-rated tires and had the same results. So much for the retro thing.

I did this with a paint pen but if you really want it to work you can sand the side of the tire until it's smooth and make a stencil of the logo you want and use krylon paint and it should stay on pretty good. White gets dirty and looks bad pretty quick though that's kinda why I chose silver to fill in the letters... Just an idea though. I think the outlined letters gives it that retro look.
