Default New (to me) 2006 4.0

I just got my hands on a 2006 4.0 5 speed.

The car is higher mileage (192,000km) but from what I've read about the 4.0's they are good for 300,000+ miles (480,000km) with proper maintenance.
I am going to be changing the oil, transmission fluid and rear diff fluid with all synthetic.
I am also going to:
Change out the plugs - any suggestions on best brand?
Seafoam the motor and clean out the throttle body - good idea?
Start pricing out a tune, dual exhaust and CAI - any suggestions?

Is there anything else I need to be looking into with a higher mileage 4.0?

It is running great, not missing, clutch is good, car rides just fine. I may have to get into a front end alignment as the steering wheel is a little off center, but I'm not concerned about it.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Welcome aboard.

For spark plugs I use Motorcraft plugs that came with the car.

Stock autolite plugs are all you need. The other pricey plugs offer no advantage and some will cause problems. I ran the stock plugs on my 2006 with the Xcharger Xtreme and drove it 203,000 miles. The current owner has about 225,000 on it.

225,000 miles? That's awesome, I'm happy to hear that these cars have some good longevity...I was a little worried about buying a higher mileage one

Stock plugs it is thanks!

Do you guys have any recommendations for tunes? The one gripe I'm going to have with this car right off the hop is going to be the lag in the throttle response.

Congrats on the new car, guy. The 4.0 is a solid motor for what it is and I really miss my 05 V6. When it was written off it had 197000 kms and still ran like a top, so if it your motor was taken care of equally well you can be confidant it will last a long time. Change your plugs, wires, fluids and watch for the infamous thermostat housing leak; and you're all set. Also if your steering is off, check the ball-joints, probably shot if factory original.

Lots of options for exhaust and intake/tunes. Not sure where in Ontario your located, but we have some good shops in both the east and west end. I've also always had great experiences with american muscle.com so consider them too.

Welcome to the site and have fun with her this summer.

Is it the V8 that has issues with spark plugs breaking?

Congrats CDC4.0 on you new purchase! I love my Stang and plan on keeping it for a long time.

I used the stock plugs in my 06 v6 (advice I got from this forum), bought a Bama tuner from AM, only 54K miles on the car though. Loved what the tuner did to the throttle response. Welcome to the club!

Yes, they use a kind of two-piece plug that does not always come out in one piece. V6 uses 'regular' plugs and no problems.
