Default S197 Spare Tire J-Bolt Size?

My 2008 has a too-long bolt holding down the spare, and it's starting to poke through the trunk mat.

I can cut it or replace it easily enough, just wondering if anyone knows the correct size/length that's supposed to be in there.

Thanks!

They are all that long (i dunno why. So that's the "correct " size)
My dad sawed a piece off of mine so it wouldn't poke through.
mines in storage, so i can't measure it now tho, sorry.

No kidding, that's the original in there? I always figured the PO just lost his and threw in some mismatched J-bolt from a boneyard.

Yeah, my 2006 bolt was super long.
Maybe the 2009+ are shorter?
Try a junk yard maybe?
or you just have to Bobbitt yours

Ford used to put a plastic cap on the end so it didn't go through the mat. But I noticed on my 2013 that it didn't come with the cap.

I took an angle grinder to it on my 2010. Already have the hole in the cover though. Not one of Fords best designs.

mine poked through as well. there is supposed to be a large plastic cap, a couple of inches across at the top, to keep it from doing that. I think it is supposed to support the mat in the middle. problem is if the cap is misplaced you get a hole...

mine doesn't have the lug wrench. might be another reason for the hole.
