Default passing SMOG in CA

hi guys, I have a 94 GT that has an offroad h-pipe and flowmaster mufflers on it. Other than that, the car is stock. I am in the process of moving to San Diego and I need to know how to pass smog and inspections. I know for inspections, the law says you have to have the stock cats in place. Can i get around this by having someone weld a cat housing around my pipe so it looks like they are there? i have no clue what the deal is with the actual smog though. If anyone has a 5.0 with an offroad pipe, can you give me a little insight on how to get by? thanks.

I think with your car coming from another state, you should be ok if you can pass inspection.

i really doubt youll pass without cats in CA. its really strict here. they do a visual test and a sniffer test so even if you welded on fake cats, youll still fail the sniffer. i pay a little extra to get my car to pass smog if you know what i mean. there is no smog equipment on my car and it smells of raw fuel when the motor is cold but it still passes smog LOL

Yep you need cats, or a little extra cash to slip to the tech

i think i will go with the little extra cash to slip to the tech.... or maybe find a stock midpipe and just switch out before i go for inspection. smog is only every 2 years correct? i could deal with a couple hours of changing it out every couple of years... thanks for the input.
