Default Tire size and type question

Hey guys, I am pretty sure I found the wheels I want, linked below, so my question is what size tires should I run up front and in the back? I want them to have grip but also be good in most weather. I don't drive the car in pouring rain or deep snow, but it is almost a DD. I like aggresive tread patterns, if there are different ones out there to choose from for my needs.

Appreciate the help!! Oh, and on the wheels, I plan on going the 9's up front and the 10's in back. ANy opinion on the wheels?

I would recommend a set of 265/35's (f) & 285~295/30's (r). You say you won't drive in "deep" snow, but will you EVER drive in snow? I HIGHLY recommend you put some all-seasons on your stock wheels and run some higher performance tires on your new wheels. You won't get a real good dry performance tire that will be equally good in the snow.

guess i didnt actually write what i meant. my stock wheels are going to be my winter wheels. haha. didnt even think about that last night. i like the fat tire look in the rear end. w ill the 295's look like that? will i need wheel spacers for them to be flush looking with the fenders?

i figured you'd be the guy to answer jazzer, haha. what kinda dry performance tire would you recommend? any brand or specific tire?

thanks!!

OK... that sounds like a good plan!

A 295 is not going to be an issue on 10" wheels and think that wheel will fit the well fine and should not require any fender rolling. I would not think about spacers until three things are determined. First is how much clearance you have once it is all installed with the tires you want to run. Second, you will not get them flush with fenders unless you roll them. Third is how wide a spacer required for the look you want and what to do about the lugs.

Get them all installed and get some pics down the side and we can chat about it some more. As for the tires you want to run, this depends on your needs as a driver and the budget in which you have to spend.

.... what are they?

Jazzer

PS. Saweeeeeeet wheels you are looking to purchase... very nice!

jazzer. thanks again.

as far as my tires go. im willing to spend a good amount for a good tire. i dont need to spend a grand though. is 6-800 going to get me a good performance summer tire? or am i off base? i like ones with aggressive tread patterns, not the typical block styles. its a dd car but i drive it hard, because its a mustang and deserves to be driven that way, haha.

and thanks for the feedback. i wanted those wheels but they didnt have 10's when i first saw so i kept looking. now they have 10's so im pumped! u like the hypercoated or a diff color for my white car?

I wasn't soo much referring to the color as they style, but think they will look great on white

As for tires, one also needs to consider replacement cost as better tyres are softer and will need replacement sooner. Example, my current "R" comps have about 10K on them and are nearly dead. I have been to lots of AX events and spent a couple hours running around Infineon, so must take this into account. I think the Nitto NT555's are in your price range and should get 25K out of them, I would think. They will be fine in the wet, but not soo soft that they will crack in real cold weather. I think it a good idea to research them, as you will likely end up driving on the snow at some point and should make sure they are rated to be soo cold.

hey. im not a hige fan of the tread on those nitto's. i did some looking and the falken f452's would be available in both sizes and they have a pattern i like. but since it is a tire and appearance is not most important, how would these rate when compared to the nittos?

thanks!

What don't you like about the tread pattern?

I would prefer the Nitto pattern over the Falkens for a performance tire. I have not driven on either, so cannot speak to the compound or real-world tests. Take a look at Choosing a new tire thread on Tires / Wheels main page and see the fundamentals of tread patterns:

Nitto 555's:

Falken 452's:

I am not a fan of the narrowing blocks toward the center of the tire. These will likely be an improvement over the Nitto's in standing water, but probably also offer additional tread squirm or "lateral crawl" over that of the Nitto's. The compound of the tire is going to be the biggest difference between these two tires and without driving BOTH tires, one cannot truley decide which is better for his/her car.
