Default Skinny wheels with big brakes?!

Hey i'm getting ready to do a 5 lug/big brake conversion with 13" rotors up front. I want to run skinny wheels as well though, preferably the prostars...

My question to you svt guys is how are you getting the wheels to work, on the kit i'm looking at it "requires a 17X8 wheel or bigger."

What kind of backspacing are you using and or wheel spacers?

Any help would be great... i'm just trying to get all this figured out before i order tons of stuff and figure out it won't work.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to ask Jazzer in the wheel section!

I have a ?. why are you getting bigger brakes on your car if you want to run Little's in the front? If your running Littles it means you want to go fast straight and don't need the 13 in rotor. Just seems like a wast of $ to me when you could put that $ toward going faster.

umm if you go fast in a straight line u still need to stop...if your doing 125+ mph in the 1/4 you will be on your brakes pretty hard at the end to stop in time at some tracks.

UMM! I understand that but I think stock GT brakes with some good pads would be just fine for going to the drag strip. Just weird to do the upgrade for an application that is not needed. It was just a ?

Like said to go fast i want to be able to stop...

But in more detail behind my reasoning with the brake swap... i want big brakes

I will have plently of stopping power for the idiotic wichita kansas drivers.
I will have plently of stopping power at the track
And bigger brakes look nice on cars to show.

I will be running 2 different sets of wheels switching them off and on.

One set of 17X9 front fr500's and 18X10 rear fr500s.
And another set of prostars or prostar knockoffs.

I want to run the skinnys though cause i love the look.. and i want it for the track as well, if i can't run the 13" rotors with skinnys then i won't. But i've seen plently of cobra's running them so i was curious to find out how they are doing it.

Any help would really be appreciated.. i don't mean to sound like a ***** or anything, but i'm 18... and i know nothing about the backspacing or wheel spacers i would need, hence the reasoning for the post.

I also plan on building the block and pushing it to its safe and reliable limit during this whole shindig anyway... i'm currently doing paintless dent repair in el paso texas, so hopefully when i get home i can order lots of stuff, but i want to get everything right when i order it.

I plan on the doing the body and brake work first though, cause the brakes suck as is... i'm doing it the safest and most reasonable way i can... IMO!

Sorry for the long post... thanks for any help again.

Looks like this got moved over to my little corner of the net

I don't know any special fitment issues with the skinneys, but I know they are made of light-weight materials (aluminum, I think) and may be an issue, due to design shape. I think it best to contact Summit, or whomever you are looking to purchase and ask them for any special fitment requirements.

Jazzer

PS. Sorry, I am not a drag guy, but I have worn a dress a couple times!
