I want to use a wider tire on the MCA 18x8 wheels.
Stock tire size for my car is 235/50 18 in the pierelli pzero Nero all season.
I looked at a tire chart and it seems that the 255/45 18 is only .18" shorter overall. However, it is also about 10" of tread width.
Any problems with doing this? Is 255 too wide for a 8" wheel?
I was going to only buy 2 for now and put them on the back. Any wonky handling characteristics I should be aware of or would you go with 4?
The pzero Nero is available in 255/45 18 so I'll stick with one model tire in any case.
Thanks.

The manufacturer will have an approved fitment of wheel widths for a particular tire. Typically, a 245 is max for an 8" wheel, but going to a 255 is really not a big deal. Being a 50 series, is gonna open up the width possibilities and just might be approved anyway. You may not gain much in terms of width, as the bottom of tire will ride up the sidewalls as wheel gets more narrow. If you look at the fitment of tires they will fit a range of approved widths in wheels. They will not necessarily be the same contact patch on each one for this reason.
They will be a bit less responsive in the corners due to a wider wheel (even if approved fitment), but personally don't think much of the P-Zero's anyway as a performance tire What kind of driving do you do?

Spirited street driving you could say. There aren't many curves where I live. I go to the smokeys from time to time to give it a good thrashing, but thats the extent of it.
I just like the look of wide tires on the back.

I too like fat meats, but would recommend another tire for any kind of spirited driving. If your tires are worn, or when they wear out, you will get a lot more "spirit" from a higher performance tire
