Default Lower Speed Rated Tires

Hello all,

I have a 2006 V6 Coupe that came with P235/55/ZR17 tires. I need to replace the tires again but really don't want to pay the extra money for Z rated tires. I have no need to go in excess of 149 mph and have no desire to play hide the soap in the prison shower if I did.

I would like to get lower rated tires but do not want to sacrifice any safety. I would like to still enjoy the handling of the car. Additionally I live in the mountains of Virginia and the constant turning eats up tires pretty quick so a stronger tire would also be helpful.

Any ideas to what type of tire I could go down to would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your car should have Pirelli PZero Nero A/S tires and not surprised you want additional grip.

You won't sacrifice any safety, by NOT going "Z" rated, so long as the tires are rated for your vehicle weight and size of wheel. You may not realize it, but you are sort-of looking in two different directions for new tires. You would like to enjoy the corners, but a harder or "stronger" tire, tends to give one less of this enjoyment.

My question is this..... speaking STRICTLY of cornering and driving performance, are you happy with the tires you have now, prior to them being in need of replacement?
