I PMed jazzer this :

"Do you think a 19x10wheel with a 275 tire would be better for handling than a 19x9 with a 255? Or does the overall width on the front wheels not really make a difference, or even harm handling and turn in characteristics?"

His response which some of you may be interested in and with relevant information :

Yes.... a 1" wider wheel with just less than 1" wider tire, WILL handle better, all else being equal. This is additional contact patch, but the wheel width to support it.

By the looks of your avi, it is an '10+ model Stang and a I know a properly fitted 9.5" will fit, so you can probably squeaze a 10" under there, but will take some research. Why is it you want to run 19"s anyway? They are a somewhat odd size and tires are limited models/sizes/makes and more expensive as a result.

Eric

PS. Please just ask these questions in your thread, rather than PM'ing me. Others will benefit from this info and is relative to your thread.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge/experience jazzer.

The rims I chose are forgestar f14's , 20x10.5 in the rear with deep concave, and 19x9 in the front semi concave. Forgestar offers 19x9.5 wheels too, but only in deep concave and i wanted semi concave on the front because imo , deep concave looks wrong on the front. I also wanted to go with a 19 inch rim on the front, because i like the look of a slightly bigger rear rim. 20's on the front looks a little "blingy" in my opinion for lack of a better word.

Ill probably end up goign with 255 45 19 tire on the front wheel, since that will be the exact same diameter as the 295 35 20 tire on the rear (28.1 inch)- stock is 27.7 so its pretty close and will fill out the wheel well a bit better. I wouldnt mind the slight rake of having a slightly smaller front wheel(275 40 is smaller in height than 255 45), may looks good.

Just trying to consider the pro's and con's, i wish they offered a 19x9.5 semi concave f14, because i would defiantly get that. Hard choice that probably really doesnt matter that much, but i dont want to make the wrong choice since these tires are expensive.

Probably going with 255 45 like i said as of currently if it will feel alot more solid/right than the 275 on a 9 inch wheel.

I like your thining

I understand the look of a rake being nice, but you have an ABS equipped ride. This means that a tire diameter differential of about 1", will begin to create some issues with the ABS sensors. If you can keep all the tires the exact diameter, this will not be an issue. You can go a bit smaller up front, but the farther you stray from equal diameter, the more often the ABS may "bark" at you.

Do you think i will end up having more understeer if i go 255/45 instead of 275 40?

Also, have you ever tried or do you have any opinions on Nitto Invo's? I really dont want understeer but i really doubt ill be hitting the limits of these new tires on the street(whichever i choose) other than in a straight line. Ive never had understeer with my current non staggered stock pirelli p zero nero setup.

Even if the car was otherwise balanced, in suspension, you will more likely have understeer with the 275's than the 255's as they will tend to roll over onto the sidewalls in hard cornering.

Staggered often leads to additional understeer, as tires are typically the same at all four corners for a reason. Nitto Invo's are a fine tire and would expect quite a bit more lateral grip than the PZero Nero's. They are just not a very good performance tire, IMO.

Found out that 255 40 19's and 295 30 20's are 8 lbs lighter each than the 255 45's and 295 35's.

They are .7 inch smaller in total height than stock. They are considerably cheaper and lighter so im probably going with this setup unless it would give me some other type of issues..

I suppose ill have a bit more fender gap until i lower it.

EDIT * looked up the weight difference on the specific tires i am looking at buying and it was only like 1-2 lb... so this website is wrong : http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
