Default 235/55s vs. 255/50s on Stock GT Wheels

Car has newish 235/55s all around on what I'm guessing are 17x8 wheels which are stock (5 spoke mags). I'm wondering if anyone has tried 255/50s on those rims and if so, has the sidewall flex been significantly more or less?

The 255s are 0.1 inch shorter diameter, so it's pretty much a wash as far as diameter goes but the sidewalls would protrude a bit more, I would think. I do note that Tire Rack's specs show them putting 235s on a 7.5" wheel and 255s on an 8" wheel, so I know it will work.

Anyone with experience here that can speak to it?

Thanks in advance...

I don't think the stock 17s are 8" width mine were 7.5 and the widest I would have gone on those was 245 personally. I have a set of 18" rims (ford racing) and they are 8".

Thanks. I was basing my wheel width figures on the Ford Racing wheel. I'm guessing the stock wheels and their Ford Racing counterparts aren't the same width then? If 7.5" is the case, I'll stick to the 235s...

Afraid not, the stock 17" wheels (the bullitts) are a 7.5" width, while the 18" chrome or black (ford racing) wheels are the 8".
