Default Which tire size for my drag car?

I'm tire-hunting for my soon-to-be drag car. The car is a 1989 5.0 Mustang LX, and it has the stock wheels on it. I don't intend to modify the body for bigger tires, I was just wondering what the best tire size and brand are for my car.

I run a set of Weld big and littles for the track. My back rims are 8" wide with 8" MT ET Drags. No figment problems at all. Rims are 4.5 backspaced, but a 5.5 backspacing would allow a 10" slick. My car is also lowered 1.5" in the rear.

Are you looking to run slicks or drag radials? On stock or aftermarket rims? Swapping from my street tires to the Weld setup saved me 85lbs rotating weight. That's noticeable when driven.

26x8.5" slicks on the stock rims... Hoosier seems to make the best ones. That said, you should seriously consider upgrading the suspension to work with the slicks.

Same size for front and rear? Or can i just cheap out on the fronts without there being much of a performance penalty?

for drag racing? You can run something like a 205/65-15 on the stock rims.

I recommend Micky Thompson drag slicks out back. 26X8.5 for your stock wheels and yes you can use your regular wheels and tires on the front.
