Can i Paint My Rims??
#11
not a problem. Im about 90% sure thats the correct number for the clear. I remember it being the 2021 clear, just not 100% on the DCU prefix.
He left the tires mounted to the wheels as he was leaving the rim/lip the factory polish. Taped everything off including the inside of the wheel (prevent over spray) and sanded them a little. I cant even remember if he primered them or not as the original factory paint was vey thin to the primer with only a 400grit sanding.
Once they were painted he let them cure a little and then wet sanded them slightly to knock down any imperfections and then cleared them with the 2021. Put 2-3 coats of clear on them.
He will put a quick coat of wax on them when he details the car out which is only 2 times a year.
8-9 years later and easily 100k miles (car has about 120k on it) and they still look good with no major chips. When he did my moms GMC wheels he just did them quick with a single stage and then had to redo them about 2 years later and that was on a truck thats only driven 1-2k miles year.
