Default 400hp.. best street tires??

I just bought a 2004 Sonic blue gt.. with patriot heads and cams as well as pretty much all other boltons. Car runs 12.4 1/4 and was dyno'd at about 330whp. It currently has 275 drag radials on the back and veryy skinny front tires.. pretty much a drag set up. The previous owner kept the car garaged and used it only as a show car.. barely every drove it. I'm going to be driving the car alot more regularly on the street. Do you guys think I should get some street tires for it? And if so, what kind and size given the amount of power the car makes? I want to get very good traction . Here's a pic of the wheels on it now.. Thanks!

I am not a fan of true DR's on a DD car, so I would certainly recommend a second set of wheels/tires for on-road use. Your HP numbers are not rediculous, so you can get away with lots of different options, but would ask you what kind of driving you will be doing when not at the launch-pad?

If you want reasonable traction off the line AND a stable tire for rain and such, I would probably recommend a set of 17" wheels. This would give you a 40~45 series tire for some sidewall stability as well as a bit of flex for grip off the line.

Will you be needing tires that will be in very cold weather, such as snow? (I see you are in PA)

Hey thanks for the reply! Yes unfortunately I live in PA.. lol. But i'm definitely going to be garaging the car for the winter season. I'm also going to try and avoid driving the car in the rain as much as possible since I have a beater grand prix haha. So I guess i'm looking for a very good gripping street tire mainly for just dry sunny weather 8-).

In such a case, you may consider a set of Nitto 555'R (not the 555'RII). I think this is a good compromise for a very grippy street tire that has a pretty good tread pattern for the wet and semi-soft sidewall for some launchabilty (if that is actually a word!)

This is a soft tire and will wear pretty quickly if you start digging the corners hard or your foot gets heavy at stoplights.

Exactly what size (all three numbers please) tires, make/model are you running now?

sorry it took me so long to get back to you... I just finally got the car..
Here's the tire specs:
Front:
Nexen SB-802 165/80 R15 (skinnys)

Rear:
Futura GLS Super Sport 275/60 R15.

They are wrapped on centerline rims.
Let me know what you think the best street tires would be to get the best traction.

I figure you want traction in terms of off-the-line, so you want a SOFT sidewall. I am not a drag guy, but M/T's are gonna hook well, but NOT to be driven on the street.

Are you looking for tires that will be for BOTH street and track?
