Default Too much sidewall for a new edge?

A local guy is going to sell me his stock tires off his 2008 GT500. They are Goodyear Supercar F-1 tires. 285/40/18 on the rear and 255/45/18 in the front. Do you think this will be too much sidewall for my new edge? He is selling all four for $150 with only 8k kms on them. Seems like a good deal to me for some wider tires.

I currently have 255/45 in the rear and 245/40 in the front.

here's how it currently looks:

I can see a bit of rubbing, based on your appearent drop of somewhere around 2"?

Those tires are just over 27" tall and OEM diameter is 25.6". This gives you 3/4" less clearance around fender to tire and an equal amound higher off the ground.

I can always throw the springs isos back into clear and potential rubbing issues.

I am mostly just worried about it looking not as good with such thick sidewalls.

I think you are likely to rub REGUARDLESS of ISO's..... I cannot say for sure. You will have 3/4" less clearance and is much more than the thickness of the ISO's.

I recommend you not run a 40 series tire on your drop.

Do you think it will rub in the front or the rear? Since my rear tires are the same as the front ones I would be buying, I could try swapping my fronts and rears for a day and see if I have any rubbing issues.

I think it will rub on BOTH ends of the car, as the diameters are very nearly the same.

One NEEDS to keep the diameters between front/rear within 1" or so to avoid ABS sensor issues, but running 1.5" larger than the OEM 25.6" is VERY likely to be an issue based on your suspension geometery. I realize the tires are a good deal, but won't seem soo nice if you have rubbing and effectively a higher rear gear ratio to boot.

LOL if they looked good on the GT500, they'll look good on your car. The 255/45 will be just a little thicker looking but won't be bad.

Actually that's not 100% right.

The newer S197 allows for a much larger tire (overall), it will be too much for the smaller wheel well on the SN95 body. You'll look like you put off road tires on and will rub (like Jazzer said).

The offset for the 18 x 9.5" wheel is quite a bit different from the offset for the earlier cars. The S197 wheel could have over 1" deeper backspacing for the same width wheel. IOW, research this carefully.
