Default Best Tire for Daily Driving + 'some' 1/4 Mile action

I've been reviewing Tire Rack and other on-line resources, just need your opinions in solidifying a tire my 2012 GT (19" rear tires only w/aftermarket 10" rims). Best size seems to be 285/35-19 to match my 255/40-19 Pirellis out front.

Best 19" dia. Choices seem to be:
1. Potenza S-04
2. Potenza RE-11 (is this overkill for occasional drag racing??)
3. Conti extreme contact DW

Budget is not an issue. Dry traction off the line is #1 priority (but i do not want a drag radial) followed by comfort/noise. Based on this, i'm thinking the S-04 is the best overall choice (from Bridgestone's web site tire selector), and the RE-11s 'might' be overkill. Dont know how the DW's compare in your opinion but i'm open to them as well since they come in this size.

Please LMK what you think is the best match for my needs,

Thanks in advance,

dh

In order of what I would run for grip (noise be damned, IMO ) ...

#1 Potenza RE-11 (Probably #1 noisy)
#2 Potenza S-04 (Probably #3 noisy)
#3 Conti extreme contact DW (Probably #2 noisy)

The 19" wheel is gonna be your biggest issue with grip off the line. What are the chances you can run a 1/4 mile ONLY tire on your OEM wheels in a 17" size?

Problem is that my 19" wheels ARE my OEM wheels! (I've got a brembo GT) however, I'll check 17" tire sizing/width/diameter on the Potenzas...and I should be able to find a couple of OEM wheels pretty easily/cheaply. It would mean a little extra effort on 'race nights' but what the heck.

The corvette guys generally don't change their 19"/20" wheels but that doesn't mean that i couldn't!

thanks,

I forgot there is a model that requires the large wheel due to the big-brake kit. Are the rear brakes oversized as well? If not, then a 17" wheel should fit, but do your research to confirm. Going smaller wheel allows a taller sidewall and equals better grip upon launch. Now, you're best off with a DR in such a case, but if ONLY for race nights, I wouldn't think this an issue.

Otherwise, what is mentioned in my post above is what I recommend.
