245/50-19 Snow Tire
Hi,
Any opinions on 245/50-19 for a snow tire? I know it's about an inch larger in diameter and will throw off the speedo by a little over 2 mph, but I would like to get something a little taller for more clearance in the snow. I have a 2012 GT on the stock suspension. My only other choice would seem to be 255/45-19 which will only give me a marginal increase, aside form being wider, which is bad for snow anyway.
Thanks,
Jason

What about picking up a set of beater 17" wheels?
This will allow you to have a full set of true Winter wheels/tires that can be installed for just those months of year getting bad weather. You can get the proper OEM diameter to avoid clearance/rubbing/speedometer/ODO issues and have a VASTLY improved choice for tires with a much reduced cost.

Thanks for responding. I suppose I could do that. I have new wheels and was planning to use the stock 19's for winter, but I could always sell them.
Why 17" instead of 18"? Less expensive? Going from 19" to 17" seems like a pretty big difference to make up for in tire.

17" tires are likely going to be less expensive and will have a wider range of manufacturers. Lots of trucks are gonna run 17" wheels and would expect more choices, so lower cost. Probably not as many 19" snow tires available, as only later model SUV's are gonna run that diameter. I would think that lots of Toyotas and Nissan trucks would run a 17" and there are LOTS of those trucks in the mountains. I would expect you could find lots of tires that will work great for you and some cheap 17" wheels that can get beat up by the Winter and not care soo much
