Description:
My barn-find '68 coupe. Originally a 6 cylinder car but had a 302 from a Granada (poorly) swapped in when I found it. Bought the car Thanksgiving day of 2003 and there she sat until the summer of 2007. My wife (now) and I decided to make this the getaway car at our wedding which was in the fall of '07. I'd had little experience with any of this stuff, I'd always just been the tool gopher for my dad (hot rod builder extraordinaire). So I spent most of the summer performing what probably would've taken a lot of guys a few week-end but I insisted on doing it all by myself to just figure it all out. I tore the car apart replacing all the brakes, suspension, steering and swapping in a 9" rear end with 3.50 gears, along with a decent 302 and C4 out of an old Ford pickup I have. We tore the motor down and discovered that to our surprise, it had been bored .40 over already! So we stabbed in a Crane cam, aluminum heads from ProComp, a Weiand aluminum intake and Holley 650 double-pumper. Finished her off with a set of headers and glasspacks, an aluminum radiator and a used set of Cragar SS that my uncle had. (and of course a million other boring little odds and ends). The thing was not even fired until 3 days before the wedding and was not driveable until the day before. In fact I was late getting to the pre-wedding pictures because we were finishing up details like putting the hood back on, locating an air filter that would fit and wiping down the interior, but we made it! I've barely touched the car since (as of 8/26/2008) and it still needs plenty o' work to look good. One of these days I'll get back on it.
