The 2003 SVT Cobra Mustang
The members have spoken, and the the greatest special-edition Ford Mustang of all time is the 2003 SVT Cobra nicknamed “Terminator.” Over the month-long voting process, the vicious snake garnered 27% of the votes, and it’s easy to see why.
Along with its aggressive styling, this was the first Mustang to feature Independent Rear Suspension, and while IRS hasn’t been available since, the Pony’s rear end is still a hotly debated topic. The SVT group also fitted these cars with a supercharged 4.6L V8 rated at a healthy 390 horsepower–though independent dyno tests discovered Cobras made north of 400.
This was the Mustang which could go head-to-head with anything from Chevrolet and beat it, be it on the drag strip or the road course.
