This article applies to the Ford Mustang (2005-2014).

It's important to change your cabin air filter regularly to ensure proper air flow in your Ford Mustang. Replacing it regularly will also allow you to dramatically reduce the amount of contaminants flowing into your cabin from the outdoors. A clear sign that it's time to swap out an old cabin air filter for a new one is when you notice a reduction of air flowing out from the air vents or a clear amount of dirt on the filter. You can also monitor the mileage on your vehicle to determine when it might be time to install a replacement.

Materials Needed

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Trim panel removal tool

When swapping out an old cabin air filter for a new one, the process is as simple as following the arrows printed on the actual filter.

Step 1 – Remove the shroud screws

  • To get started, you'll need to pop the hood of your car.
  • Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove two plastic screws located on the shroud sitting on top of the firewall and behind the battery.
  • Then use a trim removal tool to pop out the retaining clips

Step 2 – Remove the air filter tray

  • Using your hands, separate the shroud from the plastic trim piece.
  • Pinch the top of the filter tray and gently ease it out by pulling it forward and up toward you. Remove the tray completely so you can access the old air filter.
