This article applies to the Ford Mustang (1994-2004).

Ford Motor Company has needed to recall several of its Mustangs due to one or more faulty components. These recalls have been widely publicized online, and written notifications have been sent to Ford Mustang owners that have been named as part of the official recall list. Not all components that pose some risk to the driver have been recalled, however.

Ford Motor Company has issued Technical Service Bulletins or TSBs for parts that should be checked by a certified mechanic. Such parts do not pose a high safety risk to the owner; however, they should be checked out, nonetheless. Here's a rundown of the recalls and TSBs that pertain to the 1994-2004 Ford Mustang.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins

Exterior Lighting Recall

Six recalls were issued for the 2004 Ford Mustang due to problems pertaining to faulty exterior lighting. Faulty lamp assemblies were pulled in 2006, 2008 and 2009 due to a possible decrease in visibility, which might lead to a collision. Faulty or missing side reflect reflectors were named as a significant or contributing factor in all of the recalls. Ford Motor Company will repair the faulty lamps at absolutely no cost to the vehicle owner.

Parking Brake Recall

The 1995 Ford Mustang was recalled due to a faulty parking brake. The vehicles in question were manufactured between 1993 and 2000, and the total number of vehicles that could be recalled is around 434,000 units. If the faulty parking brake is not fixed, the owner could face a collision due to the vehicle moving even while the vehicle is parked and the brake is pulled. To correct the issue, the dealer must modify the parking brake control and install a needed plate. When applied together, these fixes will prevent unintended vehicle movement.

Power Seat Recall

The wiring on the front seats in 1994 Ford Mustangs is faulty and has been recalled. Approximately 54,000 units have been affected by the recall with the following consequences being noted: Overheating, melting and smoke. The dealer will need to replace tie strap on each of the front seats to resolve the problem.

Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)

The 1994 Ford Mustang has received a number of technical service bulletins for issues ranging from a malfunctioning remote keyless entry system to leaky cylinder heads in the vehicle's engine. The 1999 Ford Mustang received 192 TSBs for issues ranging from general power train module programming problems to loss of power, as well as the previously noted leaky cylinder heads in the engine. The 2004 Ford Mustang saw previous TSB re-emerge, as well as new concerns for the rear front defroster and steering rack (due to bothersome noise) also cropping up.
