So I finally have enough cash for a good budget on buying a Mustang, but since I've never owned one before I'm not really familiar with them. One of my big concerns is reliability, since it's not going to be a race or project car but a secondary daily driver. The favorites of ones I've looked at are an 2001 GT with 91k miles, black with black leather for $9000, a 2003 GT with 70k miles, Mineral Gray (I believe that's the name of the color, correct me if I'm wrong) with black leather for $12000, a 2000 GT with 75k miles, Silver with black leather, and a good deal of mods for $8500 but it's not local so cost to get it here would be high and I wouldnt be able to see it first.
So I guess for one, is 90k miles alot on the 4.6 engine? I've heard both ways on it. What are common problems to look out for? What are fair prices to offer for the 2001 and 2003 (they're from a dealer so both are at book value)? I definetely have more questions but can't think of them at the moment.
my friend has 110,000 on his '99 GT and its still running strong. Those prices are a bit high, a GT with 90k miles should be in the 7k to 8krange i would think..........And i doubt he would be able to get a Mach 1 or Cobra with his budget

i agree, been driving my car for about a 2 months and i think my car is slow now, will be getting twin turbos for it when i get the cash....but other than that i love my car. the prices on those cars are a bit high i paid $8,000 for my 99 GT Vert 5 spd with almost 62K

I do have the budget for a Mach 1 or Cobra, but I'd prefer to keep it down to the $10k range, preferably even less so I can modify and have more money for a house. 260hp should be enough for me to start with, my Probe only has 150whp as it sits so the Mustang should have almost 80 more to the wheels. I know dealerships will talk the price down since I'm paying cash, just not sure if a $7000 offer for the black 01 thats asking $9000 is reasonable. So what should I look for to judge its condition? To make sure it hasn't been beat on and such.

the fact that the one car is modded suggests that it was more than a grocery getter, did you run a carfax on them?

That's what makes me uneasy about the modded on, plus it has a exhaust clip with a burnout. And it would be 20 hours each way to pick that one up. I'm nowhere near close enough to buying any to have run a Carfax.

That should be enough for you to walk away from that sale.
for the money the mach has more power if u can spare the extra couple thousand now it will be worth it. I regret gettin my 2 valve gt everyday. just a thought wish i had done more research.
