Default Questions about the mustang II

I have a few questions about the mustang II, im very interested in them!

1. Are they legal to drive at night on the road (apparently some classics are not)
2. How hard are they to find?
3. I noticed on bluebook they have about the same value as my car at certain mileages, is this true?
4. Is there any health hazards(there was a none problem with the older mustangs that caused the car to burst into flames if hit, we had a friend of the family die from an issue like this and there family actually went to I think it was 22/22 or dateline(some show like that)to tell the story.
5. Will I need a firewall? And how much maintenance do I need to keep up on it?

1. yes.... i never knew there were ANY classic cars you couldnt drive at night. even a model T should be legal if it has headlights, taillights, and turn signals.

2. getting pretty damn hard. everyone saves the earlier classics but crushes the II's because they are retarded. what this is going to do is raise the value of the II's still left in the wild considerably over the next "x" amount of years.

3. depends on your car, and depends on the mustang II your looking at. a king cobra in good shape is worth more than your car easily, and a cobra II in good shape is probably worth more than your car as well (im assuming you have a nice condition V8 SN95). the ghia's (had a trunk) and the V6 & 4cyl cars are pretty cheap.

4. no health hazards. that was a problem with the gask tank design in certain pintos.... and all mustang II / pinto jokes aside they are NOT the same cars.

5. firewall? all cars have a firewall. its that piece of metal that separates the engine compartment from the inside of the car [8D]. these cars are pretty easy to maintain. they have reliable 4 speed manual transmissions or C4 auto's which are much better than the later model ford automatics, they have electronic ignition so there are no points to deal with like the earlier mustangs, and stock autolite carburators are virtually bullitproof. that being said its SO worth upgrading to a holley 4bbl if it still had the stock 2bbl though, these cars were rated very low HP from the factory due to the smog crap in the mid/late 70's

its always nice to see mroe people starting to come around - everyone always bashes these cars but i've never met anyone who's ridden in one and didnt love it.

That’s good about the firewall but, I know a lot of people joke about the pinto but i was actually talking about the mustang, there was a year that has some issues with fire.

I got a v6 1994 mustang, it’s got 180k miles on THE CAR, engine was replaced by ford under warranty (which is awesome because its not like some guy at home did it.) It doesn’t have any dings or anything, a few scratches and some spots, excellent condition interior is almost exactly like new(its actually weird how good it is). I think they replaced it around 90,000 miles.

Isn’t there a flat v8 (non cobra) mustang II I searched the 302 engine on NADA and got similar pricing for my car. I might settle for a v6 or v4 its going to have to be good you know?

Yeah I don’t know why people don’t like them, I think there pretty cool looking.

BTW: any tips on finding a seller?

there was NO problems with any mustang II's that i am aware of in regards to fires. also, ford hasnt made a flat head V8 since the early 50's.

as for finding one, check mustangII.net and ebay - they are pretty hard to find in the local papers or autotrader but you might find some on autotrader. the 2.3 4 cyl. and the 2.8 V6 were pretty weak, and even though the 302's were pretty weak too (like 140HP stock) its without a doubt the platform you want to find. if for some strange reason you dont want the V8 then just grab the 4 banger, there is alot of aftermarket go-fast parts for 2.3 and virtually none for the V6 so keep that in mind.

you might find someone wanting to trade - and yes they had 302's that weren't cobra II's.

Other then the Pinto, I seen a report years ago about 1965 Stangs going up in flames due to rear end hits..to find Stangs IIs, go to http://www.mustangii.netand look in the classified section and buy/sell..there are also a few on ebay right now..
getting parts is a little bit more difficult then 64-73, 79-2008 Stangs and maint is about as much as the next car..good luck
