Default tint laws

from what ive read, Michigan residents are allowed any % tint from the rear windows back, and only a 4" visor in the front side windows, and front windshield.

i have seen many cars that break this code... is this actually the law? do they just not reinforce it? i dont get it?

It is a law, must state have a limit on the % of tint. Problem is most cops don't have any way to tell what % your tint is. So unless you are way darker that the limit, like limo tint, they can't really do anything. Best bet is to go to a reputable tint shop and tell them you want it "tinted to the legal limit". That's what I have always done.

I never run a windshield stripe. To me it looks tacky and it's a dead giveaway for a too dark tint job.

Actually I don't like the tint stripe on the front window either. Looks really tacky, and it can interfere with my radar detector. Don't want that.

What ever you do, do not get limo on the back windows....I cant see **** behind me now. It looks great, but when I do finally hit something because I cant see it wont look so good. Just dont get limo.

Yeah, I live in Michigan too and those laws are correct. Whether cops enforce it or not really depends on where you live. I live in a small city where cops have nothing better to do than stop people for stuff like that. My brother said they used to stop him all the time when he lived in Brighton. He has an '89 GT. If they do stop you, they'll give you a ticket and tell you to get it removed. You can pay the ticket but you don't have to get it removed. Just get used to getting a lot of tickets. Not worth it in my opinion but it's really up to you. I'd say just stay safe and stick with tint on just the rear windows. That's what I have.

I have 20% all the way around on mine too. It's the darkest I would go. I've had limo before and it sucked on the stang, it's great on my truck though.
