Default Widest tire that will fit?

I have a 98 Cobra w/ Ford B springs, and Tokico blues. I also have 03 Cobra wheels (I think, they were on it when I got it). What is the widest tire that will fit? Anybody else running a similar setup? What tires are you running? I currently run 255/35/17, they were on it when I got it, but now they're ready to go. I wasn't just going to buy new ones until I wore these down all the way. Do any of ya'll use wheel spacers? What brand? Price?

Default RE: Widest tire that will fit?

Not sure on which car you want wider wheels? The '98 has a solid rear axle.... correct? If so, 315/35/17"s should probably fit. I am not sure if wheel-well clearance is the same on '99-'04 Stangs. I am running 295/30/18"s on 10.5"s and a 1/2" spacer (installed longer/stronger lug-bolts) with no rubbing issues. I will most likely widen wheel at a minimum of 1/2" (possibly wider) and go with 315's later this year. They will fitwithout widening, but will like the profile and fitment better when on 11" rim. I am going to do some figuring and see if making 1.5" wider so I can squeeze a set of 335's out back. I also have a PH bar and torque arm with no UCA's, so my clearance issues/articulationare different than yours anyway. As for '03 with IRS, a suspension bolt can come into play with clearance. Search about 3 weeks back, and will see a post that gets into this issue. I think spacers are needed to install 10" or wider wheels.

I forget which spacers I used, but are aircraft aluminum and exact same diameter asback of wheel face, so hardley noticable. Cost was about $80 for the pair.

I guess I should have beena little more specific. I'm wanting to use the wheels I already have. I'm pretty sure they're 03 Cobra wheels, but they're on my 98 Cobra. So my question is what is the widest tire that will fit on that wheel and fit the car? What is the widest without spacers? And with spacers?

If the wheel is stock, it should be 9". That means you are really only going to be able to go as wide as 275'sto stay within tire specs. There may be a wider tire you can install on a 9" rim,but don't know of one off-hand. You won't need spacersforclearance, but only if you want to move the wheel outward for looks, as I did. Itshould also improve your handling a bit, butrecommend longer and stronger lug-bolts if you do.
