Default Which Company’s Tune for my Shelby GT500?

Hi everyone, I was just curious as to which company I should order a tune from for my Shelby GT500? On my 08 Mustang GT/CS I had a CAI and tune from Brenspeed and was very pleased with it. But for my new 08 Shelby GT500 I do not want a CAI, (I want to keep it looking stock) I just want the performance tune. I see that a performance tune for aShelby GT500 with a stock air-box is available from VMP, Brenspeed, Bama, and Evolution. Just curious to find out which one of them is the best and most reputable custom tuner for the GT500 with a stock air-box? Thanks!

I would go with Evo or VMP, not that the others ain't good too, but for what I've read they are the ones that have tuned more GT500's than the others, Justin@VMP, for example owns a GT500 he always keep modding and knows it pretty well.

But I will take a dyno tune over a mail tune anyday, or get a mail tune and then get the car to the dyno to check the AFR, Justin can review your datalog and send you a modified tune if needed.

Thanks for the response. I was leaning towards VMP after I stumbled onto their web site, but I didn't know if they were one of the better ones or not. It seams that VMP and EVO are very similar, but it may be just the way that they advertise. VMP provides three tunes, 91,92, and 93 octanes for $445.00, and EVO provides your choice of either 91,92, or 93, but only one of them. Brenspeed and Bama are cheaper, but may not be as familiar with the GT500 as VMP or EVO.Bama says that their tune will get you 40-45 rwhp, Brenspeed says 50, and EVO and VMP say their tunes will give you 55-60 rwhp. Don't know if any of the claims are real or not, but I will probably go with VMP if they have as good of a reputation as it seams that they do? Thanks again.

I can speak from experience. Brent at Brenspeed is a hell of a tuner. I havent dynoed it but SOTP it's at least 50 hp and no issues whatsoever.

Thanks Mullens. Are you running just a tune from Brenspeed with your stock airbox? If so how do you like it? Do you wish you had gone with a cold air intake and tune? Was just the tuneworth the money and how noticeable is the difference over stock with the new tune? Any info would be greatly appreciated in helping me make this decision.

Yes I have the jlt. I bought the combo from Brenspeed that came with an X3loaded withtwo tunes specifically written for the jlt. Any one of the good tuners will do just as well, its just personal preference and price. Ive heard real good things about Evo too. With this combo the difference in power, sound and drivability is like night and day. Well worth the $$ IMO. You havent heard your Eaton until you get a good CAI. Exhaust is not that important but you almost have to get a CAI witha tune to realize its full potential.

I just got my SCT3 and tune from Brenspeed last friday. I still have the stock airbox (will be changing that soon). Of course I cannot say which is best but I am very happy with Brenspeed's tune. It did make a big difference in driving. Throttle lag is gone and I can feel the additional power. My 2 cents worth anyway.

I think I am going to go ahead and order a tune for the stock airbox and I'm leaning towards VMP right now. Anyway, did it feel like you got an extra 50 or so HP? Was it that noticable? Thanks.

Hard to tell if it was an extra 50 hp (probably close) but it was very noticable. Best money I have spent on it so far but I wish I hadpurchased a CAI with it. I think it would have been a huge change. Gotta order one now. Of course then I'll need a pully change and so on. Never enough power...[8D]

Just get it...you will not regret it.
