I recently bought a 2008 Mustang Convertible to replace my 1997 Mustang convertible which was wrecked in an accident at work while it was parked. The new car has 16" wheels on it.
I live in a region of the country where snow and ice are a reality in the winter. On my '97, I had seperate steel rims and Dunlop snow tires (rears studded). I am wanting to do the same thing with my 2008. Unfortunately the '97s steel rims are only 15" wheels, so they won't work.
I searched the 'net today, I couldn't find anyone who had steel rims for the '08. I know I can't be the only person out there who would like a set of steel rims for the '08. So, can anyone point me to somewhere that has steel rims for the '08?
Also, I know the new car has a tire pressure monitoring system. If I get the steel rims and snow tires without the sensors for the TPMS I know that the system will probably complain, but will it do any damage to the TPMS system?
Thanks in advance.
Kevin

When I was looking for a car I came across an 06 with steel wheels I hadn't seen the wheels before and when I took a close look I realized they were wheel covers on steel wheels. So they should be available from Ford or Tire Rack, etc. I would just get set of 16 or 17 take-offs though.
W/O the transmitters you will have an warning on all the time as I understand it, annoying but not hurting anything.
Yes, there are those of us who are looking for plain steel wheels for our late model Mustangs, and I think I've found something. The following website has the Chrysler police steel wheels in a 4 1/2 inch by 5 bolt pattern, and I believe they will fit the Mustang hubs. I'm gonna buy one to see if it will fit, if not, I'll just return it. I'm gonna try a 15 by 6 inch wheel, and if it fits, I'm going to put on tires that have a diameter equal to the stock tires that come on the V6s. If you want, stay tuned and I'll let you guys know if the wheel fits ok. Here's the website where the wheels are located: http://wheelvintiques.com/shopsite_s...ml/page68.htmlJack
They have great prices on snow tires / wheel packages. I have the 17" GT wheels but in the winter I swap them out for 16" Bridgestone Blizzaks on steel rims. You can also buy just the rims which is what you need.

Take-off bullitts and other rims (www.newtakeoff.com) are so cheap that they're not much worse than the price of steel rims at your local whatever.
Buy some take off bullitt rims for $400, get them mounted on some nice winter tires and you're all good to go for the winter without making your car look ridiculous.
If you can be easy with it, the stock Pirelli's are fine in the winter as well. I live way North in Edmonton, Canada and get like 7 months of crappy weather every year, and I've done two completely nasty, horrible winters with my stock Bullitt rims and all-season Pirellis and have had no problems, and I haven't even put any weight in the trunk (don't want to risk getting it dirty with sand or sidewalk blocks or whatever).
If you're really worried about the tires though, I would just get some take off rims which look good and mount winter rubbers on them.
Good luck! (And good job thinking ahead about winter traction in JUNE, I guess...)
I would just try to enjoy the nice-weather cruising with the windows down for a while, lol.
