a few weeks ago i asked ford to send me a build sheet on my 96' cause i suspected it had the 248A option delete package (crank windows, manual cloth seats, no lights in the sun visor mirrors, no fogs, ect...) well they dident send me a build sheet instead they sent me a letter with all the cars options. i had known for a while that my GT had a hard time off the line and 5th gear (yes manual trans, dont worry its important in a second) is bacisally for 70+ MPH driving. well according to this little letter the car came FROM THE FACTORY with a MANUAL TRANS and 2.73 rear gears!! what the f**k Dearborn? i guess its my own fault, i should have known something was up when i routinely hit 40+ MPH in 1st...

i think the stock for 96-98 (maby 94-95 too not sure) was 3.08, i know in the old days like 60's and 70's they put like 2.80 or something in automatics to make up for only having 3 forward gears, i thought it was the same in the 90's as well but i could be wrong. but i cant imagine that the NPI GT's came stock with 2.73's and the "new edge" models came with 3.27 stock.

96-98 gts had two different options on gears. My 98 had 2.73s which was the "economical" package. You could get the sport package with 3.27s as well. A jump to a 3.73 will be a night and day difference.
