Default Swapping from 4" pulley to 3.75" for Kenne Bell (pre swap dyno #'s)

I am currently running the 4" and was wondering who was running the 3.5" on stock internals.
I just ordered one and am awaiting shipment.
Not sure what the boost difference is going with this pulley, I am thinking about 4psi?
I am a little scared going to 12psi, but I don't run on a track, I don't ever hit the rev limiter & don't have slicks on the car. I am assuming if I am careful, the chances of anything breaking is minimized.

When people break rods, are they destroying the bottom end? Anyone know the cost of upgrading the internals before vs after a rod breaking?

Still running stock clutch till she lets go... assuming that will be the next grand I blow.

According to KB, the stock tune is good for 14psi. Increasing boost psi also increases fuel psi.

Guess this answers part of my question...
Found on another board:

I haven't seen a "9psi" pulley, but the rule of thumb is 1/4" = 1psi. I have 3 pulleys: 8psi pulley = 4", 10psi = 3.5", and 12psi = 3".

Can anyone confirm this info? is 3.5" really 10psi? That actually makes me feel better, not pushing it to the outer edge for stock internals.

well the forged rotating kits i have seen,
range from $1900 to around $2400.

not sure what labor would be, maybe $1000?

Be afraid very afraid
I ran a 3.5" pully ........................for a week.
Or should I say a weak rod that is.
Good news
Dynoed 509/502tq had it up to 515 but it was detuned hahahahahahahah!!!!
Bad news
Bent rod.
I would go with a 3.75" pulley until your ready to buy a short block.

4" = 8-9 psi
3.75" = 10-11 psi
3.5" = 12-13 psi

1000-2000 just to pull the motor and get it disassembled and between 2000-4000 more in labor depending on what else you get done, assembly of the short block and head work, fuel pumps etc etc...

If you break a rod, you most likely need a new block. If you do it prior to theexplosion you can save between $800-1700 depending on what block you get. An iron block is $430 plus maching is another $350 or so. Aluminum is $1100-1300 plus machine work.

Either way, start saving and shopping for an assembledshort block.

So we are definitely talking north of 6k just to be able to run 12psi. (not to mention other supporting mods like clutch, driveshaft ,etc...)

I've already got 20k into this car for the KB, Body work...

Would this be the route to go?
http://haneymotorsport.com/HMS%204.6...ing%20Kits.htm

Looks like it will support 700hp. I'm only looking for a little over 500 reliable.
$1725 for the parts, and you say about 5k in labor? Sound right?

Just want to research this a bit before I go ask the local shops. Nice to be a little educated on the subject first.

Thanks for the responses!

Don't forget everything else after the short block.

GT 500 fuel pumps $649
60 # Injectors $250
8 bolt flywheel $250-$500
Head gaskets $125
Head Studs $200
Oil Pump$100
What ever you decide to do with your stock heads $300-$3000
Throttle body$499
8 rib Kit $399
Clutch $399
Then don't forget about your input shaft

You can do it but you should not be running that 8 PSI tune at 12 psi.
I would bet that if you called Jim Bell he would say you need to dyno tune by 11 PSI.
You will be dangerously lean if you run that 8 PSI tune at 13 PSI, which is what youmay get from a 3.5" pulley.

I have been running 11-12 PSI on my KB for almost two years on stock block. I have a safe A/F ratio and run 100 octane and its all good.
