SEMA 2012 is well underway. While there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of customized mustangs here, this Cobra Jet stood out in particular. And it’s not just because Cobra Jets are awesome. This one is special. As in factory-built-twin-turbo-insanity special.
This concept is not just a power exercise either. For chose the smallest turbos they could get away with to ensure that 5 liter V8 is as responsive as possible. They’ve also gone a long way to reduce loses due to friction. Considering the size of the engine, we imagine those turbos are still pretty big, even if Ford is downplaying their size.
The turbos are based on the design found in the Focus ST, which is a pretty impressive little car by itself. Whether or not this car will go to production is anyones guess. But with the amount of buzz it’s generating, we can only hope that twin-turbo V8s are on Ford horizon.
